The aim of this study is to present quantitative data for the region of Southeastern and Eastern Europe, including Turkey. The tabulation of quantitative data covers the interwar period, specifically from 1928 to 1938. It covers the Great Depression and the brief post-crisis period, up to  the outbreak of World War II. This period and the selection of specific data for presentation are part of the analytical framework and objectives of the TransMonEA research program (see the summary in the Program Description (academyofathens.gr)).

The sources used are drawn primarily from the published quantitative time series of the League of Nations (LoN) for the interwar period. Also utilized are the quantitative series presented in the publications of “The Royal Institute of International Affairs,” also known as “Chatham House,” which were likewise published during the interwar period. The quantitative series selected for presentation pertain to the region’s international trade (imports/exports), in constant currency; external debt service as a percentage of each country’s exports; and the prices of imports and exports per metric ton. It also presents the value of the region’s currencies during the aforementioned period, with 1928 as the base year (1928 = 100), as well as wholesale market prices and the cost of living. Finally, the trends in the production of major agricultural products, such as tobacco, are presented.

Based on this analysis, publications and scientific presentations were produced as part of the TransMonEA research program.
